Caffeine

Caffeine comes from coffee beans, but it can also be synthesized in a laboratory. It has the same structure whether it’s in coffee, energy drinks, tea or pills.

Caffeine is a powerful stimulant, and it can be used to improve physical strength and endurance. It is classified as a nootropic because it sensitizes neurons and provides mental stimulation.

Habitual caffeine use is also associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.

Caffeine’s main mechanism concerns antagonizing adenosine receptors. Adenosine causes sedation and relaxation when it acts upon its receptors, located in the brain. Caffeine prevents this action and causes alertness and wakefulness. This inhibition of adenosine can influence the dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and adrenaline systems.

Capsaicin (Red Chili Pepper)

The exact molecule found in hot peppers that burns your face off, acts via adrenaline receptors and TRPV1 (like Evodia) to increase heat quickly. Can burn body fat with minimal potency, fight inflammation with decent potency, and prevent cancer with indeterminate potency.

  • Supporting appetite control – reducing feelings of hunger
  • Promoting a healthy metabolism – supporting energy production
  • Breaking down the body’s fat stores – providing energy
  • Promoting thermogenesis, the body’s internal heat generation – burning more calories

EGCG – Green tea catechins

It has been implicated in benefiting almost every organ system in the body. It is cardioprotective, neuroprotective, anti-obesity, anti-carcinogenic, anti-diabetic, anti-artherogenic, liver protective and beneficial for blood vessel health.

Fucoxanthin (Brown Seaweed)

Fucoxanthin is a brown seaweed pigment that is found in most brown seaweeds, as well as a few other marine sources. It is a xanthophyll, which is a molecule structurally similar to beta-carotene and vitamin A.

Fucoxanthin, via its metabolites, seems to be stored in fat cells for a prolonged period of time and can induce fat loss while inhibiting fat cell differentiation and proliferation. Although only one human study has been published, it appears to be a promising non-stimulatory fat loss agent but requires time to work (5-16 weeks).

It also possesses other health benefits, such as correcting abnormalities in glucose metabolism in muscle tissue which can help diabetics and might reduce cholesterol levels and triglycerides by currently unverified mechanisms. Reductions in blood pressure and reductions in both liver fat stores and liver enzyme values have been noted with fucoxanthin supplementation in humans.

Fucoxanthin, although usage as a supplement is preliminary, appears to be a very promising joint fat loss and health boosting agent.

Synephrine – Citrus Aurantium

In clinical trial research, p-synephrine, the primary bioactive in Advantra Z® extract, significantly increased thermogenesis in subjects performing a resistance training test.†

Extracts of bitter orange (from which Advantra Z® extract is derived) as well as p-synephrine have traditionally been used in the sports performance and energy categories.*

Harvest of bitter orange fruits at an optimal stage results in Advantra Z® extract possessing exceptional quality and high bioactive content.

† Measured based on the level of fat oxidation during a cycle ergometer test (Gutierrez-Hellin and Coso. Br J Clin Pharmacol (2016) 82: 362-368).

Theobromine (Cacao)

Theobromine is classified as a stimulant; like caffeine! Interestingly enough, unlike caffeine, it barely stimulates the central nervous system. Instead, it serves as a cardiac stimulant. It relaxes the smooth muscles within the body (which are muscles that line the digestive tract and other vital systems in the body).

Theobromine can give us a similar lift in energy without the edgy and jittery effects our caffeinated drinks give us.

Theobromine is non-addictive.

Energy, Without The Crash – The pick-me-up feeling from theobromine is different from caffeine. It gives a more refreshing and uplifting feeling for a prolonged time. Kind of like waking up after a good night’s sleep.

Additional Theobromine Benefits:

  • Enhanced Focus
  • Heart Health
  • Antioxidant
  • Elevates Mood
  • Better Sleep

7-Keto DHEA

Studies using 7-keto supplementation tend to note an increased metabolic rate later on during a caloric restriction period (which is secondary to reducing the rate of metabolic rate decline associated with dieting, and becoming a relative increase).

People take 7-keto-DHEA to speed up the metabolism and heat production to promote weight loss. 7-keto-DHEA is also used to improve lean body mass and build muscle, increase the activity of the thyroid gland, boost the immune system, enhance memory, and slow aging.

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Vitamin B3 refers to the molecule commonly called nicotinic acid, or niacin, though it may also refer to the other vitamin B3 vitamer, called nicotinamide. Vitamin B3 is necessary to support the function of many enzymes.

Niacin supplementation is very effective at normalizing blood lipid levels. People with low HDL-C levels supplementation experience an increase in HDL-C levels, while people with high LDL-C experience a reduction in LDL-C levels. Triglyceride levels also fall after supplementation, which makes niacin look like a great cardioprotective supplement on paper. Unfortunately, niacin supplementation does not result in reduced cardiovascular disease risk, since it also increases insulin resistance, which negates the benefits niacin provides for blood lipid levels.

Other benefits of niacin supplementation are theorized to extend to growth, cognition, and longevity. This is because niacin supplementation increases cellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) levels. Preliminary evidence suggests increased NAD+ levels may result in the above benefits, but much more research is needed to determine if this effect actually occurs.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl)

Vitamin B6 is one of the B-vitamins, used in producing a necessary coenzyme in the body. Other functions include energy and stimulation.

Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin)

Functions:

Cognitive Function and Brain Health

Energy and Stimulation

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)

Pantothenic acid is one of the B-vitamins which is critical in the formation of Co-enzyme A, a molecule which helps a large amount of enzymes function in the body, and for energy production in general.
